Because of events in her past and a new threat, Riley leaves her life behind hoping for a fresh start. She thinks that first and foremost all women have to see the same truth about sexist oppression, realize that they need to work together, regardless of age, educational level, religion or color. Her view on feminism is that it still needs lots of development int he inside before it can achieve actual successes „outside”. ![]() It is an all-in-all 174-page-long writing, which discusses the top ten struggles feminism has to deal with, and at the same time the most important ten goals it needs to achieve - through 12 chapters. The book was published in 1984 by South End Press in the United States. This way she can put any building, landscaping, etc. Making it fictional gave her the chance to build all the infrastructure a town would need to be self-sufficient, and yet have the feel of a "Mayberry"-like small town. Pleasant, she has a true feel for life in that area. She used aspects of two real islands off the Charleston coast, Isle of Palms and Sullivan Island, and having lived in Mt. ![]() Susan talked about how she came to create a fictional island with its own history. Several members wished they could visit (or live!) in Stella Maris. Members liked the way the story balanced lightness with depth, and agreed the characters were all people they would want to visit again in further books.
